May 2nd, 2011 - May Snowmobile Run
A group of snowmobilers were out on Sunday and May 1st, they departed from the limestone quarry (10km west of the club) and did the 19-301-22 loop. There were water holes and bare spots to contend with; this is to be expected as it is the month of May. Snow is melting fast and with the amount of rain forecasted for the remainder of the week there will likely be very little snow remaining by the end of this week.
April 20th, 2011
Groomers are parked and all trails are officially closed for the season as well our club house. However there are still snowmobilers out enjoying spring running on the trails west of the club. Trails west of the club still have plenty of snow but washouts and sink holes are starting to appear, please take your time if out on the trails.
April 15th, 2011. 7am
The New Holland is out on the trail 19 this morning repairing any water holes that may formed this week between the club and the 19/24 intersection. At the same time we will be going on a rescue mission for the Jacket River Club; their groomer broke down this week and they had to leave their drag on the trail in order to limp their groomer out to safety. As per Federation Rules trails are officially closed as the 16th of April. Trails west of our club still have plenty of snow, if you plan on doing some off season trail ridding do so at own risk.

Temps have been above freezing for over past couple of days and washouts are immanent. Trail 19 from the club to Bathurst is now considered closed, all trail west of the club are still open and we'll try to get the groomer out later this week once the temperatures drop back below freezing. We received close to 30cm of snow over the past couple of days. The Lamtrac has been working on trail 19, east of the club since early this am. We were able to make to the north side of the Tetagouche River near the Atlantic Host; the river is not completely frozen over as of yet. We also groomed the trail into Danny's Inn. We had to fill in several water holes today, especially between the Morrison Tunnel and the Tetagouche River. There are still a couple areas that are going to need more work and some freeze up, therefore trail 19 from Bathurst to the club is still considered closed. The New Holland will be out early Monday working on trail 19 from the club to the IP Road. All trails west of the club are open.
January 8th, 2011. 11am

January 6th, 2011. 9pm
All of our trails west of the club are now officially open, please exercise caution as there are still some areas that could use more freezing. The areas to be extra cautious are trail 19 near the 19/24 intersection, trail 301 2 km either side of the sugar shack and trail 22 for 5 km on the south side of route 180. Trail 19 from the club towards Bathurst is still closed, the forecast is calling for more snow over the weekend maybe we will be able to open this section of trail next week.
The groomer will be back on the trail tonight grooming trail 19 from the club to the IP Road (8km west of the 19/503 intersection). Track our New Holland groomer
Make sure to have your trail pass, registration and insurance when heading out on the trails. Trail enforcement officers will likely be on the trails over the weekend.

The New Holland is out grooming trail 19 from the club to 19/301 int (Arleau brook shelter), trail 301 (sugar shack trail) and trail 22 from the 301/22 int to the 19/22 int. Groomer is still out working on trail 19 west of the club, we were able to make it to the IP Road. Just returned from a trail inspection, here is a summary of the trails that were traveled:
Trail 19 from the club to 19/301 - Ice bridges seem to be holding up, we are still bypassing the bog 8 km west of the club however we will try to cross it tomorrow with the Lamtrac.
Trail 19 form the 19/301 to 19/24 - There are areas near the 19/24 intersection where water is flowing on the trail. We will try to fix these areas next time out with pallets.
Trail 19 from the 19/24 to 19/22 Shelter - GOOD
Trail 22 from the 19/22 to 22/301 - Good on the north side of route 180, pretty rough going on the south side for 5 km. One big washout and several areas where water is running down the trail for hundreds of feet at a time.
Trail 301 - Good except 2 km on either side of the sugar shack, there are water holes that need to be fixed.
Trail 19 from the 19/22 shelter to IP Road - Was not inspected today but we do not foresee any issues (we'll see what the operator has to say when he returns)
We will be working on the aforementioned problem areas over the next few days. We should have some trails officially open for the weekend.
January 3rd, 2011. 9pm
We received approximately 10cm of wet snow today. The groomer will be out working on trail 19 from the club to the IP Road starting late Tuesday Morning. The New Holland will be back on the trail with plenty of fuel do the run (we added a 300 L aux tank to our drag). We will also work at repairing the washout along this section of trail and hopefully with the cooler temperatures that are forecasted these washout issues will be alleviated. All trails are still considered closed, we will reevaluate after tomorrows run.
January 2nd, 2011. 8pm
There is a snowfall warning in effect for the Chaleur Region; potential for 15cm of snow. The forecast is also calling for double digit lows throughout this week. Hopefully we will be able to officially open some trails later this week. The club will be open for business as of Wednesday and the first Supper of the season will be this Friday, January 7th. The meal is Chinese Food sponsored by Elmtree Resources and Guillevin International.
January 1st, 2011. 2pm
Happy New Year!
The groomer was on the trail for 22 hrs yesterday working on trail 19 from the club to arleau brook, trail 301 and trail 22 from the 301/22 int to 19/22 int. We are in desperate need of cooler temperatures as there are still several washouts and swamps that need to freeze up in order for us provide safe trail conditions.
All trails are considered closed at this point in time.
December 31st, 2010. 12pm
The Lamtrac groomer is out on the trails today doing trail 301 (sugar shack run) and potentially trail 22 from the 22/301 intersection to the 19/22 intersection. This groomer does not have the GPS tracker, therefore these trails will not show up as groomed on the GPS Plein Air Website.
All trails are considered closed until we get all the water hole issues rectified. Travel at own risk.
December 30th, 2010. 1pm
Here is a summary of yesterdays grooming activities:
Trail 19 west of club
Got the groomer stuck in a swamp 8 km west of the club, had to get an excavator to pull him out. Continued on our way and as far as Inland Lake, we would have liked to continue on to Simpson's (19/503) field but we did not have enough fuel to do the run. bThe section of trail 19 from the club to 19/301 intersection is considered closed until we resolve the 200' swamp issue.
Trail 19 east of club
We made it as far as Hwy 11 we had to turn around at that point as there was swamp and there was not enough snow around to fill it. We will need more snow and cooler temps before we go any further toward Bathurst. This section of trail in considered closed until further notice.
We will be heading back out today to try and fill in the swamp 8 km west of the club. Our next grooming trip will be the 19 from the club to 19/301 int , 301, 22 from 301/22 int to 22/19 int and maybe 19 from 19/22 int to 19/503 int.
December 28th, 2010. 9pm
How much snow you ask? ALLOT! These pictures were taken today on trail 19 & 301 respectively.
We will have both of our groomers on the move early in the am. The New Holland will be working on trail 19 west of the club and the old Lamtrac will be on trail 19 from the club towards Bathurst.
December 27th, 2010. 4pm
We have 20+ cm down in the Bathurst area and 30+ cm in the upper elevations of our trail system, the forecast is still calling for an additional 10 to 20 cm. Reports are that some of the snow bridges we constructed last week have washed away while other are ok. Once the storm is over we will be concentrating our efforts on the trails west of the club. It's going to be tricky getting the trails set up as there is now allot of snow down and nothing is frozen underneath.
December 26th, 2010. 12pm
There is a snowstorm forecasted for Monday, 15 to 35 cm of snow depending on who's forecast you're looking at:
http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/nb-28_metric_e.html
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/CANB0009
We have the drag hooked up to the groomer and we'll be ready to go as soon as the storm of over.
Just like last year you will be able to track our grooming progress on the following site:
http://www.gpspleinair.com/pleinair/carte_nb.html
December 24th, 2010. 3pm
We spent the night working on all of the required snow bridges from the club to the intersection of 19/24. There was a boggy area that we had to detour as it was not frozen enough to go over it with the groomer. What we need now is couple of days of cold weather to allow for these bridges to freeze up before we head back out. There is allot more water in the woods than we are use to dealing with this time of year. All trail are still considered closed at this time.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
December 23rd, 2010. 8pm
Great News! Santa has come early and brought snow to the upper elevations of our trail system. There is approx 30 cm at the Club and 45 cm at the Sugar Shack. The groomer is out (w/o drag) working at building the required snow bridges on trail 19 west of the club. All depending how we make out with the snow bridges we may be able to start grooming shortly. We will keep you posted.
December 21st, 2010
It's been nothing but rain in the Chaleur region over the past couple weeks. The big rain storm from last week that caused allot flooding throughout the province has only caused minor damage to our trail system. The forecast is calling for up to 20 cm of snow for inland areas of the Chaleur Region, if we get the forecasted amounts we may be able to go out and start building the required ice bridges on trail 19 west of the club. This will be no easy task as watercourses are still running very high for this time of year.
December 5th, 2010
Thank you to all the members who attended the AGM today. Those who were in attendance got a first hand look at our new tractor/groomer. Bremner installed the Soucy Tracks and plow on the tractor this past week. We will be hooking the brush cutter back on shortly so we can continue brushing trails until the snow flies.
November 17th, 2010
Our annual general meeting will be held Sunday, December 5th, at 2pm at the Club. All members are encouraged to attend. Trail permits are now on sale @ SNB; as always you have until December 15th to take advantage early bird price (saves 55$ on seasonal permit). Remember if you want to support the Chaleur Snowmobile Club we are CLUB #4.
August 31st, 2010.
The Chaleur Snowmobile Club has decided to take a different route with the purchase of our new groomer. We have made the purchase of a New Holland 6070 tractor with a Soucy Track system. We have also purchased a 16’ boom mounted brush cutter to go with the tractor. With very little volunteers and trail brush growing out of control, this machine will be of great use to us. We will be starting to brush trail 19 from the Atlantic Host to the Club in early September.

All trails in the Chaleur system are considered closed. Trails west of the club still have quite a bit of snow but washouts are starting to appear and temperatures are to warm and the trail is too soft to send the groomer out to repair the washouts. If you plan on snowmobiling please do so at own risk.
Picture below was taken on Saturday. Temperatures were in the mid 20's over the weekend!
March 31st, 2010. 10pm
It has been raining on and off for the past three days. Trails west of the club still have plenty of snow but there is now a risk for washouts especially between the club and the 19/24 intersection. It does not look like we will be able to get and groom any time soon as the forecast is calling for to warm of temperatures. Please take your time and be on the lookout for washouts.
March 28th, 2010. 8pm
Prior the the weekend we were able to groom all trails west of the club with the exception of trail 19 from the 19/22 shelter to the IP Road. The trails on Saturday were amazing and are still in very good shape after the weekend traffic.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Canadian Cancer Society on Saturday.
We are unsure when we'll be grooming next as the forecast is calling for rain during the next three days.
March 24th, 2010. 9pm
We received 15 to 30 cm of snow throughout our trail system over the past couple of days. Between now and the weekend we will be working at getting all trails west of the club groomed.
There is a Snowmobile Rally this Saturday to help raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. Click on the following link for more details: http://chaleur.ca/toc.htm
March 22nd, 2010. 9pm
Trail 19 from the club heading towards Bathurst is now closed. All of the trails we maintain west of the club are still open and have plenty of snow; to date there are no bare spots or washouts. Saturday night we groomed trail 19 from the club to the IP Road, trail 503 from the 19/503 intersection to Route 180 and trail 22 from the 19/22 intersection to Route 180. Tonight we will be grooming trail 19 as far as the 19/301, trail 301 and trail 22 from the 22/301 to Route 180.
If you plan on traveling between the Chaleur and Nepisquit trail system using trail 503 (tv tower trail) please beware that the Upsalquich river has opened up and can be detoured using the road bridge on Route 180.
You can track our grooming progress on the following website:

March 18th, 2010. 9pm
Last night we groomed all trails mentioned in yesterday's post with the exception of trail 22 from the 22/301 to the 22/19, we were running out of time and the temps were a little on the warm side to do a good jog of grooming. Tonight we will groom 19 from the club heading towards town as far as we can make it (likely the Hydro Line in Dulop). Right now the gps pleinair map shows trail 19 from the club to Beresford as being groomed on Wednesday; this was not the case, it was triggered when we floated the groomer back from town.
There is a supper this Friday at the club click on the following link for more details: http://chaleur.ca/toc.htm
This will be the final post for this week, next update will be on Sunday or Monday. Have a safe weekend on the trails and please take your time as trail conditions can change quickly this time of year. Keep a close eye for washouts as water courses are on the verge of starting to run.
March 17th, 2010. 8pm
Our groomer is back at the club, fixed and ready to go. Tonight we are planning on grooming trail 19 as far as the 19/24, trail 301 and trail 22 from the 22/301 to the 19/22. Last night Jacket River groomer trail 19 for us from the 19/24 to the 19/503, this section will not show up as groomed on the gps pleinair map map. Thank you once aging to Jacket River for helping us out.
All trails west of the club still have plenty of snow and our neighboring clubs: Jacket River, Balmoral, Nepisiquit and St Quentin are all still grooming their respective trails that tie into the Chaleur trail system.
There is a supper this Friday at the club click on the following link for more details: http://chaleur.ca/toc.htm
March 16th, 2010. 10pm
The parts needed to repair our groomer are currently on order and if all goes well we will be back up and running on Wednesday evening. In the mean time the Jacket River club will be helping us out by grooming trail 19 for from the 19/24 intersection to the 19/503 intersection (Simpson's Field).
March 15th, 2010. 9pm
Reports from our operators that were on the groomer this past weekend is that the unit was still not operating at 100%. Therefore we decided to send the groomer to Wallace Equipment today so that than can try and resolve the problems we are having. Therefore we will not be grooming until get this issue resolved.
The majority of our trails that are open are still in very good condition.

We will no longer be grooming trail 19 from the Atlantic Host to the hydro line in Dunlop as there is not enough snow cover. This portion is trails is considered closed and use at own risk. All trails west of Dunlop still have plenty of snow cover and are in very good condition even after this weekends traffic.
The 4 km stretch of trail 301 that was previously plowed has been restored to it's original state. The contractor that opened the road had a dozer in there on Friday and knocked down all the plowed banks and put the snow back on the trail. Our groomer spent several hours working on this portion of trail on Saturday.
Here is a short video as well as a picture of trail 19 a few km west of the club on Sunday.
March 12th, 2010. 9 pm
Great News! Our groomer is fixed and back on the trail. Our grooming schedule for tonight is as follows:
- Trail 19 from the club to Dunlop
- Trail 19 from the club the 19/24 intersection
- Trail 301
-Trail 19 from the 19/24 intersection to the 19/22 shelter will also be groomed tonight. This portion will be groomed for us by the Jacket River Club, nice of them to give us a hand. Note this portion of trail will not show up as groomed on the gps pleinair map as their groomer does not have a gps system.
Have a great weekend on the trails and please take your time as there is allot of traffic on our trails this time of year.
March 11th, 2010. 10 pm
Our groomer is currently broken down with a hydraulic control issue. The defective parts are currently a local hydraulic shop, hopefully we will have some better news tomorrow.
Reports from snowmobilers that were out on Wednesday is that trail 19 west of the club is in good shape. All other trails in our system are passable but in rough shape.
March 10th, 2010. 8:00 pm
If you've been keeping as eye on our grooming progress on the gpspleinair site I'm sure you've noticed that things have not been going as planned this week. Last night while grooming trail 301 our groomer lost the ability to move forward, it would only go in reverse. Unbelievably the operator was able to get the groomer back to the club house with the drag while driving in reverse for nearly 20km!
We are currently working on the groomer to try and resolve the problem.
March 9th, 2010. 11:00 pm
We were unable to groom trail 19 from the club to the Atlantic Host on Monday as the temperatures were higher than forecasted, however we were able to get out on Monday night and groom trail 19 from the club to the IP Road. Tonight we will be grooming trail 19 as far as the 19/301, 301 and 22 from the 301/22 to the 19/301.

There was an unbelievable amount of traffic throughout our trail system on Saturday, the trails are in rough shape especially trail 19. The groomer will be heading on trail 19 from the club to the Atalantic Host early Monday morning, once he returns we will switch operators and then groom trail 19 from the club to the IP Road.
You can track our grooming progress on the following website:

March 6th, 2010. 7:30 am
There was so much traffic on trail 19 yesterday that we had to send the groomer out to groom trail 19 in it's entirety. The groomer is currently on trail 19 west of the club and is on his way back from the IP Road. DRIVE WITH CAUTION AS THE GROOMER IS ON THE TRAIL.
March 4th, 2010. 10:30 pm
All trail in our system have been groomed and some portions of trail 19 have been groomed 2x. Before the weekend we will groom trail 19 from the club to the Atlantic Host and potentially trail 19 from the club to the 19/22 intersection.
You can track our grooming progress on the following website:
http://www.gpspleinair.com/pleinair/carte_nb.html
There is a club supper Friday night. Click on the link below for more details:
March 2nd, 2010. 10:30 pm
Today when the groomer returned from his trip on trail 19 west of the club we switched operators and headed back up 19 as far as the 19/24 intersection and then up trail 24 up the Jacket River Bridge. Next on the grooming schedule will be trail 301 and trail 22. Please note that there is still a 4 km stretch of plowed road on trail 301 near caribou mines. Please take your time while traveling on this particular section of trail as the snow banks are getting quite tall and visibility around the corners is not at it's best.
There is a club supper Friday night. Click on the link below for more details:
March 1st, 2010. 10:30 pm

We finally received a snow storm that delivered the forecasted amounts! The lower elevations of our trail system received approximately 25 cm of snow and the upper elevations received 40-50 cm. The groomer will be heading out shortly to groom trail 19 from the club to the Atlantic Host.
You can track our grooming progress on the following website:

February 25th, 2010. 11:00 pm
Throughout last night and today we have groomed trail 19 from Beresford (where trail 19 meets hwy 11) to the IP Road. We were unable to groom the section of trail between Beresford and Bathrust as there is not enough snow to pass the groomer however it is still passable by snowmobile. We are currently grooming trail 301 and will also be grooming trail 22 form the 22/301 intersection to the 19/22 intersection.
You can track our grooming progress on the following website:

The groomer is now back on the trail after nearly a week of not being able to groom due to mother nature not cooperating with us. Our plans for grooming over the next couple of days are as follows:
-Trail 19 from the club the the IP Road
-Trail 19 from the club towards Bathurst (we will go as far as the snow conditions allow us to)
-Trail 301

February 22nd, 2010. 10:30 pm
We've been receiving a mix of rain and snow here in the Chaleur region over the past couple of days, not much for accumulation but reports are the upper elevations received 6" of wet snow. Tonight's temperature is still on the warm side for grooming. Looks like we may have an opportunity to groom on Tuesday evening; the forecast is calling for minus three.
February 21st, 2010. 12:30 pm
All of the trails in the chaleur trail system are in rough shape and are in desperate need of a grooming but unfortunately mother nature is not cooperating with us. We need 12-16 hrs of below freezing temperatures in order to do a good job of grooming. We will be out on the trail as soon as the weather cooperates. FYI the trail 19 from the Atlantic Host to the Club is still passable however the portions of trail that run near highway 11 (sunset exit & morrison road tunnel) are down to bear ground.
February 19th, 2010. 7:30 pm
Wednesday night we groomed trail 19 from the club to the IP Road. We had planed to continue grooming yesterday but the temperature were to warm to do so. Looks like the temperature will not drop below freezing until this evening, we will be sending the groomer out at that point.
Club supper tonight, click on the following link for more details:
February 17th, 2010. 11 pm
The groomer is fixed and back on the trail. We had to wait until this evening to start grooming as the temps were too high to groom today.

February 16th, 2010. 11 pm
We have yet to groom any trails this week as our groomer is down with a minor hydraulic issue. We are anticipating to be back up and running early Wednesday morning. We will start by grooming trail 19 west of the club.
February 14th, 2010. 7 pm
Warm weather and heavy traffic over the weekend has caused the trails throughout our system to get a little roughed up. The groomer will be out trail 19 west of the club in the early hours of Monday morning. Please note that there is a 4 km section of trail 301 behind caribou mines that is plowed.
You can track our grooming progress on the following website:

February 11th, 2010. 11 pm
The groomer has been working on trail 19 east of the club since 8:30 this morning and is still on the trail. We made as far as the Sunset Exit near the Tetagouche river. Snowmobilers can now access our club from both trail side hotels (Atlantic Host and Danny's). We have groomed every day this week and we will be out again on Friday to groom trail 301.
We're having a fund raising event for the club this Saturday at Jean-Marie Lavigne Camp. Click on the following link for more details: http://chaleur.ca/toc.htm

In addition to grooming trail 19 from the club to the Ip Road we also groomed trail 22 from the 19/22 intersection to the 22/301 intersection. Tuesday we will be heading back up trail 19 as far as the 19/301 intersection (Arleau Brook Shelter) then onto trail 301.
Later this week we are going to have a contractor deliver us a few loads of snow so we can fill the ditch at the Morrison Road. We will then attempt to groom the missing link of trail 19 between Morrison Road and the Atlantic Host.

The groomer will be hitting the trail early this am to groom trail 19 from the club to the IP Road (8km past the 19/503 intersection). We have been getting some light snow all day; so far we have received 5cm in town and 10+ cm in the upper elevations of our trail system.

February 4th, 2010. 11pm
Our demo days with the new lamtrac did not go exactly as planned. First we had a drag failure happen to Nepisiquit's drag and had to leave it on the side of trail 22, then while returning to the Chaleur club to go pick up our spare drag we received word that our old groomer had gotten stuck in a ditch while on his way back from Jacket River so we had to send the demo to go get him unstuck.
This evening we took the demo on trail 19 from the club toward Bathurst and tried to go up trail 305 (power line) but we turned around after a couple of km as there is still not enough snow to groom this section of trail.
All trails that are open are in very good to excellent condition. Reminder that there is a Supper and Dance at the club at the club Friday night.
February 3rd, 2010. 11pm
We now have the Lamtrac Demo in our possession, we will be testing it out over the next couple of days. As mentioned earlier this week our gps unit is fixed and back on our groomer. You can track our grooming progress at:
http://www.gpspleinair.com/pleinair/carte_nb.html
February 2nd, 2010. 10pm
All trails that are considered open are in top shape. We will not be getting to try the Lamtrac demo groomer tonight as Nepisiquit had some groomer issues over the past couple of days which has put them a little behind schedule. If all goes well we may get to take it the the day on Thursday.
Wednesday we will be doing some grooming for the Jacket River Club; will be grooming trail 24 from the 19/24 intersection to the Jacket River Bridge.

We have been grooming pretty much non stop since Saturday evening; trails that are open are setting up real nice with these cold temperatures. We were unable to do anything with the trail from Beresford to Bathurst as there is not even enough snow to fill the ditch along the Morrison Road near the tunnel to allow us to gain access to this section of trail with the groomer.
Tuesday night we will be getting the new Lamtrac demo groomer to test for a couple of days.
Our gps unit has been returned to us today and will be placed back in the groomer tomorrow. The portions of trail we groom will once again be updated on on the gps pleinair site.

January 31st, 2010. 10pm
Saturday night we groomed trail 19 from the club to the 19/301 intersection, trail 301 and trail 22 from 22/301 int to the 19/22 int. Tonight we will be grooming tail 19 from the club towards Bathurst. Last time we did this run we only made it as far as the Morrison tunnel in Beresford. Tonight we will attempt to go on further but this will be no easy task as there is very little snow and couple of watercourses that need snow bridges. Monday will be grooming trail 19 from the club to the IP Road (8km west of the 19/503 int).
January 29th, 2010. 10pm
Looks like the storm is over in town, we received approx 15-20cm. However, 10 km west of the club it's still snowing quite heavily and there is over 30cm of snow down. Today we groomed trail 19 from the club toward Bathurst, we made as far as the Morrison Tunnel where the trail crossed hwy 11. All trails west of the club were in top shape prior to this storm.
Snowarama will be taking place tomorrow at Island Lake. Click on the following link for more info.

January 28th, 2010. 8pm
Groomer is out on trail 19 west of the club and is planning on going as far as 19/503 intersection (Simpson's Field). All trails will be flat prior the snow we are expected to receive over the next 24 hrs. Forecast is calling for up to 20cm.
January 27th, 2010. 10pm
The rain and warm weather caused very little damage to the trails west of the club. Some of the snow bridges were eaten away a little on the edges but its nothing the groomer can't fix. All trails are in very good condition with the exception of a section of trail 19 from the 19/22 shelter to the 19/503 intersection which is a little rough. We were unable groom today as the temperatures were on the plus side of zero. We'll try again tomorrow.
January 26th, 2010. 7pm
We received close to 24hrs of above zero temps (as high as +8) as
well as some rain. The little bit of snow cover around the Bathrust area
has taken a hit and you can see that some water courses have started to open up
while driving along Highway 11. Trails west of the club should be alright as we
have a decent base; however there may be some watercourses that have opened up.
It is currently below freezing and snowing quite heavily in the upper elevations
of our trail system. We will be sending the groomer out on trail 19 west of the
club tomorrow morning. Be on the lookout for potential
washouts if out snowmobiling over the next couple of days.
January 24th, 2010. 8pm
The weather this past weekend was absolutely beautiful for snowmobiling. For the amount of traffic we seen the trails faired out pretty well. Our groomer is currently down with a throttle sticking issue, the boys will be working on it in the morning. By the looks of the forecast we will not be able to start grooming until Wednesday.
Note: Our GPS unit has failed and has been sent away for repairs. Until we get it back the portions of trails we groom will not show up as being groomed on the gpspleinair map.
January 22nd, 2010. 8pm
We were able to make it out today to groom trail 19 from the club to the 19/503 intersection (Simpson's Field). Trails are in beautiful condition. Have a great weekend on the trails!
Note: Our GPS unit has failed and has been sent away for repairs. Until we get it back the portions of trails we groom will not show up as being groomed on the gpspleinair map.
January 21st, 2010. 9pm
Today we groomed trail 19 from the club to the Arleau Brook Shelter (19/301), trail 301(Sugar Shack Trail) and trail 22 from 22/301 to the 19/22. All trails west of the club are in very good to excellent condition. We may try and and groom trail 19 from the club to 19/503 intersection once more before Saturday.
Note: Our GPS unit has failed, we should receive a new unit later this week. Until then the portions of trails we groom will not show up as being groomed on the gpspleinair map.
January 19th, 2010. 9pm
We were a little delayed getting our grooming activities started this week as we decided to get some new windshields placed in our groomer. Over the past couple of weeks we've shattered over half the windshields due to the downed trees. The groomer headed out on trail 19 from the club for the IP Road (8km west of the 19/503 int) at approx 1pm this afternoon.
Note: Our GPS unit has failed, we should receive a new unit later this week. Until then the portions of trails we groom will not show up as being groomed on the gpspleinair map.
January 17th, 2010. 8pm
Trail 22 from the 19/22 to the 22/301 is now cleared, groomed and opened. There was heavy traffic throughout the weekend, all lodges were full. Grooming operations will resume on Monday Evening we will be grooming trail 19 from the club to IP Road.
Note: Our GPS unit has failed, we should receive a new unit later this week. Until then the portions of trails we groom will not show up as being groomed on the gpspleinair map.
January 16th, 2010. 8am
All trails west of the club are groomed and opened with exception of trail 22 from the 19/22 intersection to the 22/301 intersection. There is still a 3 km aldery stretch of trail 22 on the the south side of rte 180 which needs to be cleaned. The groomer with the drag that has the brush bar will be working on this section of trail today as well as volunteers with chainsaw. Anyone willing to give a hand can head to this section of trail.
Looks like the GPS unit on our groomer has failed, we are awaiting a new unit.
January 15th, 2010. 7am
Yesterday we groomed trail 19 from the club the the 19/24 intersection then back to trail 301 on towards trail 22. Not quite sure at this point in time if we able to groom trail 22 or if we turned around at the 22/301 intersection. We'll have update for you this evening.
January 13th, 2010. 10:30pm
Today we did a bit of work (clearing trees and building ice bridges) on trail 19 form the club heading towards Bathurst; we only got as far as Robertville. There is still not enough snow on this section of trail to consider it open. Over the next couple of days we will be working on trail 301 and trail 22. We now have a link between us and Nepisiquit via trail 503.
January 12th, 2010. 8:00pm
We have finally completed the cleanup of trail 19 from the club to the IP Road. The groomer is on its way back with the drag and is grooming this section of trail. The St Quentin Club has groomed their portion of trail 19 so there is now a link between two clubs. We also have two other provincial links which have been groomed these are Trail 22 (Balmoral) and Trail 24 (Jacket River). The only provincial link we are missing in our trail system is with Nepisiquit; trail 22 from 19/22 to 22/301 has not been groomed yet. Both clubs have made efforts to try to get this section groomed but unforeseen circumstances have prevented us from doing so. There is still a 5km stretch of trail 22 on the south side of RTE 180 which could use a bit more work. Hopefully we will have this groomed by the weekend.

January 11th, 2010. 10:00pm
We were unable get out today to continue our clean up on trail 19 because we had some minor groomer issues to take care of. We will be continuing our efforts tomorrow in the Simpson's Field area then on towards the IP Road.
January 10th, 2010. 10:00pm
By end of tomorrow we should have trail 19 from the club to the IP road completely cleaned and groomed. Next we will be concentrating our efforts on trail 22 from rte180 to the 22/301 intersection and also trail 301.
Thank you to all volunteers who have been working with us through this mess. We would also like to thank West End Sport for their monetary contribution. Pictures are worth a thousand words:
January 9th, 2010. 8:30pm
Here is an update on how the clean-up is going:
- 9km of Trail 19 from Arleau Brook Shelter to 19/24 intersection : Cut only, will be cleared & groomed on January 9 or 10th. Temporally by-passed using Sormany road.
- 6 km of Trail 19 before the 19/22 intersection: Cut, Cleared & Groomed. This particular section was atrocious.
- 5 km Trail 22 on the south side of RTE180: We had a Lamtrac mulcher in this section of trail, we made it 800m and the unit had a hyd issues which could not be resolved. Too bad because it was doing a wonderful job widening this narrow aldery section of trail. However this section has been cut by volunteers and should be cleared and groomed by nepisiquit's groomer by the am.
- 1 km Trail 301 near the 22/301 intersection: not complete
- 2 km Trail 301 on both sides of the sugar shack: North side of Rte 180 has been cut, south side had some work done but is not complete.
- Trail 19 from 19/22 to IP Road: Should be cut, cleaned & Groomed by Sunday afternoon.
January 7th, 2010. 10:00pm
Most of today's efforts were spent working on the 6 km stretch of trail 19 prior the the 19/22 intersections, there is still approximately 1.5 km of trail remaining to be cleared in this particular area. Tomorrow we will once again be concentrating our efforts on the problem areas of trail 19 (see January 5th post). We are in need of volunteers with chainsaws. Here is a Picture do give you an ideal what we are dealing with:
January 6th, 2009. 9:00pm
We will be sending our groomer out with two operators early tomorrow morning without the drag to work on the problem areas of trail 19. We are looking for volunteers with chainsaws to head to the problem areas of trail 19 shown in the prior post. We're asking that you cut the trees into manageable pieces that so that the groomer can push them out of the way.
We'll let you know what kind of progress we made tomorrow evening.
January 5th, 2010. 6:00pm
Here are the known sections of trail to date that have major windfalls:
- 9km of Trail 19 from Arleau Brook Shelter to 19/24 intersection
- 6 km of Trail 19 before the 19/22 intersection
- 5 km Trail 22 on the south side of RTE180
- 1 km Trail 301 near the 22/301 intersection
- 2km Trail 301 on both sides of the sugar shack
- Trail 19 from 19/22 to IP Road ---Unknown at this point in time
Most of these sections have large trees which have fallen and are completely blocking the trail. This is not a type of problem we can resolve with the brush bar on our drag. We need people to go out clear the trail with chainsaws prior to us sending the groomer out. Anyone interested in volunteering can head out to one of the sections mentioned above and start cutting.
The only positive with this situation is that we did receive a pile of snow in the upper elevations. Michel @ the sugar shack said they received well over 2ft.
January 4th, 2010. 6:00pm
The big snow storm was a big disappointment for lower elevations of our trail system, we received more rain than snow in the costal areas. However the in upper elevations of our trails system we received lots of heavy heavy snow (30 - 50 cm). Reports are that this heavy snow combined with the high winds we received has caused major damage to our trail system with falling trees throughout, there are some big trees (10" in diameter) completely blocking off the trail. All trails are closed until further notice until we get this problem resolved.
January 3rd, 2010. 9:00am
We've received more rain than snow so far this storm, however the forecast is calling for additional 20-30 cm of snow. There is approximately 10-15 cm of snow down so far in the Robertville area; less in Bathurst and probably more in the upper elevations. Are plans are to try and groom from the club to the Tetegouche River (near Atlantic Host) once the storm is over which should be sometime Monday. Trails that are considered open west of the club were in very good to excellent condition prior to this storm. We still have some trouble areas of frozen trees bent over onto the trail, they are as follows:
- 5 km Trail 22 on the south side of RTE180
- 1 km Trail 301 near the 22/301 intersection
- 2 km Trail 301 on both sides of the sugar shack
Reports are that 5 volunteers with chainsaws went to work on these sections of trail yesterday but we are not sure how they made out.
Here is short video of one of frozen sections that was taken on trail 301, north side of sugar shack on January 2nd.
December 31st, 2009. 9:00am
Happy New Years Everyone!
Looks like we may be getting a Big Snow Storm over the weekend. We'll keep our fingers crossed.
December 30th, 2009. 10:00 pm
The following trails are now open:
- Trail 19 from the Club to Simpson’s Field
- Trail 22 from Island Lake to 5 km South of Rte 180
ALL other trails are still considered as “USE AT OWN RISK”
Note: Please take your time when traveling on Trail 19 from the club to the 19/24 intersection. This section of trail could use more snow as there are small alders sticking up through the trail bed.
http://www.gpspleinair.com/pleinair/carte_nb.html
December 29th, 2009. 5:00 pm
The warm weather we received yesterday has helped melt some of the ice off of the trees however there are still some sections of trail that are blocked off. Here are the areas that we are having problems with:
- 5 km of Trail 19 before the 19/22 intersection
- few km of Trail 19 after the 19/22 shelter
- 5 km Trail 22 on the south side of RTE180
- 1 km Trail 301 near the 22/301 intersection
- 2 km Trail 301 of both sides of the sugar shack
We will be sending the groomer out on Wednesday with our old drag which has a brush bar attached to it. We will be concentrating our efforts on the problem areas of trail 19 and trail 22.
Here are a couple of pictures to show you what we are up against.
December 27th, 2009. 5:00 pm
All of the trails mentioned in the previous post were groomed or are in the process of being groomed. We also groomed an additional 25 km stretch of trail 22 on the Nepisiquit side from the 22/301 intersection to the 22/507 intersection. The following is a message from our trail manager/groomer operator:
“The last storm up there has created havoc with the trees along the trails. Although beautiful, the small trees are bent over the trails sometimes actually blocking the trail completely. Although passing the groomer shakes the ice and snow off, it would take some warmer sunny weather for them to swing back in the upright position. I had to repair a few wash-outs on trail 19 last night and we haven't yet groomed from the club to the Host (lack of snow & unfrozen brooks and marshes), so I'm not ready to declare our trails officially open yet. I met a lot of sleds on 19 yesterday as they're getting anxious, but right now it's still at the ''use at your own risk stage''.”
The good news is that the forecast is calling for +4 deg Sunday night. These high temps should melt all the ice and hopefully the trees will swing back into their upright position.
The Chaleur, Nepisiquit and Restigouche snowmobile clubs now have real time GPS fleet system on their groomers. The following is a link that shows the grooming status of trails that these three clubs maintain. This is simply a tool to show where and when the groomers have traveled and not as an indication of the actual condition of the trails. Always refer back to www.chaleur.ca for accurate trail conditions.

December 25th, 2009. 1:00 pm
Merry Christmas!!!
We have some good news. We will be sending out our groomer to groom some of the upper trails starting tomorrow morning. If all goes well here are the trails that could be open:
-Trail 19 from 19/24 intersections to the IP Road
-Trail 22 from 22/301 intersections to Island Lake
-Trail 301 from Arleau Brook to 22/301 Intersection
We’ll let you know sometime on Sunday how we are making out.
December 22nd, 2009. 7:00 pm
Well we did not get the big storm like we were hoping. There is plenty of snow in the upper elevations of our trail system we just can’t get to it yet. The only plowing that I am aware of in our trail system is approximately a 6 km stretch of Trail 301 from Arleau Brook heading towards the Sugar Shack. If you plan on snowmobiling please take your time, trails are still closed.
Forecast is calling for 10-15 cm on Wednesday, we’ll keep you posted.
December 17th, 2009. 8:00 pm
The groomer went and groomed from the club to the Upper Tetagouche Lakes Road (19/24 intersection). Unfortunately there is still not enough snow down to build a proper trail. However not all news is bad. The ice bridges were topped off and pallets were placed at are know washout locations. It looks like there is a potential for a storm on Monday or Tuesday, we’ll have to reassess then.
All trails in the Chaleur Trail System are CLOSED until further notice.
December 17th, 2009. 6:30am
We received approx 12 cm of snow in town and 15+ cm in the upper elevations of our trail system. The groomer will be heading out on trail 19 west of the club this morning. We’ll let you know how he made out as soon as he gets back.
All trails in the chaleur snowmobile trail system are still closed until further notice however this may change prior the weekend.
December 13th, 2009. 11 pm
There were quite a few machines out running trail 19 west of the club over the weekend. From the Club to the Upper Tetagouche Lake Road the going is rough, the snow bridges that were constructed last weekend have held up but we still need more snow before we can groom this section of trail. The portion of trail 19 from the Upper Tetagouche Lake road to Island Lake is in good shape and could be groomed anytime.
The forecast is calling for 5 cm every day for the next four days. If we get the forecasted amounts we may be able to have some trails open for the upcoming weekend.
Remember Tuesday December 15th is the deadline for the early bird prices for tail permits. If you want to support our club, we are CLUB #4.
December 8th, 2009. 8 pm
There is a snowfall warning in effect and it looks like the north east portion of the province is going to be hit the hardest with 20-30 cm of snow. Let's hope for 30!
The snow and rain we received last week has formed a pretty good base. We had your groomer out on Saturday building the required snow bridges between the club and the Upper Tetagoughe Lakes road. With the cold temperatures we received the past couple of days these snow bridges should be pretty solid.
December 2nd, 2009. 11pm
Here is a picture of what our new groomer is going to like. It's a Lamtrac LTR 5200, the unit is scheduled to arrive in mid January.

December 2nd, 2009. 7am
Keep a close eye on the weather folks, there is a winter storm watch in effect for Bathurst and the Chaleur region.

November 30th, 2009.
November finally showed up on the last day of the month. It was only 10 cm but lets hope it’s a sign of things to come.
April 22nd, 2009. 8 pm
We had some unbelievably nice spring riding condition this past weekend, trails were awesome with the exception of a 3 km stretch on the Upper Tetagouche Lakes Road where 4x4's busted the trail. We are spoiled to be able leave our club house on snowmobile this late in the spring. We received some rain and warm temps over the past couple of days, the washouts we repaired between the club and Upper Tetagouche Lake Road have probably opened up.
All NBFSC trails are officially closed as of April 16th, if you plan on snowmobiling please do so at your own risk.

All NBFSC trails are officially closed as of April 16th, if you plan on snowmobiling please do so at your own risk.
Since Monday's storm we groomed trail 19 from the club to the 19/22 shelter near island lake as well as trail 301 as far as the sugar shack. We still have an excellent base but water courses are opening up and eating away at the sides of the trails so please take your time and always be on the lookout for washouts.
The club will be open on Friday afternoon so if you want to reserve tickets for Saturday's Steak Supper & Dance please call the club @ 783-3335.
April 14th, 2009. 10 pm
The groomer is out on trail 19 and is going to try to make his way from the club to Island Lake. We received close to a foot of snow at the club and even more in the higher elevations like Island Lake and the Sugar Shack.
April 13th, 2009. 7 pm
We had some beautiful spring ridding conditions over the weekend, the yard of the club was packed with trucks and trailers on Friday and Saturday. The repairs that were done to the washout last Wednesday night have bee holding up pretty good, however always be on the lookout as they can appear at anytime this time of year. Reports are that we received close a foot of snow in Sormany today, we may send the groomer out one last time before the 15th.
This Saturday April 18th is our annual T-Bone Steak Supper & Dance, if you would like to reserve your tickets in advance please send us an email at info@chaleur.ca
Here is a video that was taken on trail 19 near Tetagouche lakes last saturday, as you can see we still have nice base but the trail is beginning to be eaten away on the sides.

April 8th, 2009. 8 pm
Here are the locations of known washouts on trail 19 from the club to the Upper Tetagouche Road:
- Approx 6 km from the club
- Approx 2 km before the Arleau brook shelter (between Hickey Road and the shelter)
- Approx 2km before trail 24 and trail 19 intersection
The club was open today and we had a few people trailer up to the club, some went to Island Lake and others to the sugar shack. Reports are that trails are still in nice condition. We will attempt to send the groomer out tonight to repair the washouts and maybe groom as far as Island Lake if time permits.
The club will be closed for the remainder of the season with the exception of this Saturday the 11th and next Saturday the 18th which is our Annual Steak Supper and Dance.
April 6th, 2009. 8 pm
We received quite a bit a rain over the weekend and it has washed away allot of our snow, as a result trail 19 from Bathurst to the club is CLOSED. Trails west of the club are still considered open but please snowmobile with caution and be on the lookout for washouts especially on trail 19 from the club to the Upper Tetagouche Lake Road. We may try and groom trail 19 west of the club later this week if we get temperatures below zero.
March 31st, 2009. 7 pm
We received close to 15cm in town and over 25 cm in some areas of the trail system west of the club. We decided to change our schedule a little and send the groomer to do trail 19 from the club to the IP Road and trail 22 to Island Lake before going to town. We will groom trail 19 from the club to town on Wednesday night.
March 30th, 2009. 9 pm
We seen allot of traffic on the trails this past weekend, the weather was absolutely beautiful and the trails help up well for the amount snowmobiles that were on them. There are still no washouts to report as of yet and snowmobilers are still crossing the Tetagouche river near the Atlantic Host. It has been snowing for most of the day, looks like we could end up with 15 to 20 cm of snow. Depending on the weather we will be back out grooming the trails either Tuesday day or Tuesday night, we will start by grooming trail 19 from the club to town followed by the club to the IP Road & Island Lake on Wednesday night.
March 26th, 2009. 9 pm
We had some electrical issues with our groomer this week which has caused us a couple of down days. So far we have groomed trail 19 from the sunset exit to the Ip road as well as trail 22 from the 19/22 shelter to Island Lake. All trails throughout our system are in very good to excellent condition. Saturday's weather is looking absolutely beautiful for our Fund Raiser Rally for the Canadian Cancer Society. See following link for more details: http://www.chaleur.ca/toc.htm
Reminder to always remain on the lookout for washouts this time of year as they can appear at any time.
March 23rd, 2009. 8 pm

Reports from snowmobilers are that the trails throughout the Chaleur trail system are in prefect condition! Have a great weekend on the trails.
March 18th, 2009. 7 pm
Trails were in very good to excellent condition prior to the warm weather and little bit of rain we had today, we will have to wait and see what affect this has on our trails. Looks like the temperature will be back below freezing on Thursday evening at which point we will resume grooming activities. We are going to try and get trail 19 groomed from the Atlantic Host to the IP Road once more before the weekend. Always remain on the lookout for washouts this time of year as they can appear at any time.
This Friday's supper is Salted Cod sponsored by Arsenault Fish Market and West End Sport. This is always a popular supper with great prizes. Call the club to reserve your tickets. 783-3335

March 2nd, 2009. 7pm
It has been snowing most of the day here in the Bathurst area, it looks like we are going to get another foot of snow by the time this system passes through. Our groomer is currently broken down with some track issues which should be repaired sometime tonight. One of the tracks fell off yesterday while we were grooming trail 19 to the Atlantic Host, thankfully the breakdown occurred near the Host. If all goes well we will be back on the trail early Tuesday morning and will be grooming trail 19 between the Club and Atlantic Host as well as the local power line trail to Pointe Verte.
February 26th, 2009. 9pm

February 25th, 2009. 7am
The groomer was repaired and was back on the trail at 1 am Wednesday morning. It is going to take us some time to get all the trails groomed, with all the snow we received it is extremely slow going for the groomer.
February 23rd, 2009. 7pm
The weather network has reported that the Bathurst area has received 50cm of snow and it is still snowing! Our groomer is currently broken down, we are hoping to be back online by Tuesday evening.
